Creating More Space

I get it. Our homes seem ever smaller no matter what we do. While you can have an addition built or convert your garage (which we would be happy to help with!), this may not be the route everyone wants to take. Creating more space in your home can be done with some simple organization tricks. (Trust me, I live in a 1000 sq.ft. apartment with 2 adults, a child, and several pets!)

First and foremost, getting rid of all the things you no longer use will open up so much space in your home. It is amazing how much we hold onto. So go through it and donate, sell, or send it straight to the bin. This will give you room to organize what you do want to keep.

Space saving items, like slim hangers, smaller appliances, and television mounts help a ton, too. By getting things in a more compact area or up off the floor/table/surface, every room will have a new air about it. I know taking out that clunky old entertainment center changed my layout!

In closets, under sinks, and in cabinets, look for shelves, baskets, and stackable bins. In my son’s closet, because he is constantly growing, we have his clothes sorted by size in stackable, clear front, bins that allow us to keep everything organized, but tucked away for when it is needed.

You would be amazed at what a bookshelf can do. Of course, it is great for books, but what about adding decorative bins to organize all of your craft supplies in? How about turning it into a mini pantry if your apartment is like mine and doesn’t have one? (We can also help you build a shelving unit, affix it in an area, or even create custom built-ins!)

These are just a handful of little tips that have helped me personally to create a home out of a tiny apartment. If you are interested in more tips, send us a message and I would be happy to point you in the right direction!
