Give Your Home a Glow-Up!

If you are anything like me, you are always looking for little tweaks to beautify your property, both inside and out. So today I thought I would give you a list of some of my favorite simple and inexpensive upgrades you can do on your own or with the help of our awesome handyman!

Flower Beds and Garden Beds

My favorite thing to do in a new space is make my front porch/entry area look bright and beautiful. Outside of wreaths and benches (which are always a great addition), one of the simplest things you can do is place or clean up the flower/garden bed out front! When we moved into our current apartment, there was a huge wash out all the way around the front of the building. Our solution? About $25 in stones from Home Depot spread in the area. The white stone brightens the front yard and hides the washout while not allowing it to get worse! Several home and garden stores also offer stunning, low-maintenance flowers you can pop in to a new or existing flower bed. With a free weekend and a little elbow grease, you can take your front lawn from drab to fab.

Just take a look at what a little time and mulch can get you!

New Lighting

Okay, this one is probably best left to the pros, because of the electricity component, but that is where we come in! Upgrading the old sconce by the front door to something modern really does wonders for the exterior of your home. Changing pendant lights or traditional flush mounted lights to recessed lighting inside gives a sleek and sophisticated feel to any room. Even swapping an antiquated pendant light for something more modern really changes the space. Of course, I am a big fan of ceiling fans, and boy if a fancy fan doesn’t make life better. (Especially when you get one with a remote!)

A Fresh Coat of Paint

I cannot stress enough how far some new paint can go in giving your house the glow-up of your dreams. Are you looking to buy a house but just can’t get over the gaudy color they put in the kitchen? Don’t let that stop you! With a professionally done paint job, that room will become your favorite in the house. Just take a look at this:

Oh, yeah. We can handle exterior painting too.

Mini Remodels

Have you been dreaming of a more spacious bathroom? What about a reconfigured kitchen? You can go all out and completely change every single item. That is one option. My preferred method is a “mini remodel” though! To open up that bathroom, you could swap out the sink and vanity area. Instead of moving every appliance in your kitchen, why not add a kitchen island for more counter space or shift the refrigerator to open the room up some more? A mini remodel could even be new furniture or a reconfiguration of the current furniture in your living room. You will be amazed by how much a space can change with new end tables and a mounted television. Even just taking the old flooring out and finding something more your style is basically life-changing.

There are a million little projects I did not get the chance to mention, such as: a new mailbox, new street numbers, décor, and creating a backyard oasis. Kelley Handyman Services is happy to help with any project, big or small! Let us know if there is something you are looking to “glow-up” about your home!
