How To: Install New Blinds

This is something I did recently, so I figured I would share my expertise! (Read that with a lot of sarcasm. I gave up halfway through and made my husband do it.)

Step One: Gather Materials

This can be anything from faux wood to vinyl blinds, a screwdriver or drill, a pencil, and some serious elbow grease.

Step Two: Remove Old Hardware

Take down whatever existing window covering is present and carefully remove the hardware currently in place. You don’t want to rough up this area too much as it could cause your new hardware to fit poorly, not secure to the wall, or just cause it to look awful.

Step Three: Adjusting The Mounts

This is where that pencil comes in. You want to make sure that you are installing the blinds level. Take the new hardware and mark out where it will need to sit before you start screwing anything into the wall. It is totally up to you if you do an inside or outside mount, and your packaging should come with instructions on how to adjust the brackets in that case.

Step Four: Mounting

After everything is exactly where you want it, screw those mounts on in! A drill will make this a lot faster and easier on the arms, but a screwdriver works just fine. Once the mounts are up, you can slide your blinds into place, lock them in with whatever mechanism is provided, and they are ready to use. (Keep in mind you may have to clip/hook the opening rod.)

Step Five: Enjoy!

Fortunately, today’s blinds tend to be cord-free and beautiful right out of the box. After they are fully secured, you should be able to put them to work covering your windows!

I know this sounds easy enough, but if you lack the ability, desire, or even the time to do this, give us a call! You may be like me and have all three and still decide to pass it off, and that is totally okay. Kelley Handyman Services is here to help.
